Property Charges - Sample Calculations

Example #1: a non-commercial property owned by a PEI resident valued at $150,000, located in the City of Charlottetown (municipality). For 2013, the non-commercial municipal tax rate for the City of Charlottetown is $0.67. The property owner is eligible for the Provincial Tax Credit, which is $0.50 for 2013.

    Taxable Value Assessment  $150,000.00  
     
    Province of PEI Charges ($150,000.00 / $100.00 X $1.50) $2,250.00  
    Less Provincial Tax Credits ($150,000.00 / $100 X $0.50)    $750.00 $1,500.00
     
    Municipal Charges ($150,000.00 / $100.00 X $0.67) $1,005.00 $1,005.00
    Island Waste Management Corporation Charges      $205.00
    Annual Charges   $2,710.00

Example #2: a non-commercial property owned by a PEI resident valued at $180,000, located in the Fire District of Kinkora. For 2013, the Fire District of Kinkora (ad valorem) rate is $0.11. The property owner is eligible for the Provincial Tax Credit, which is $0.50 for 2013.

    Taxable Value Assessment $180,000.00  
     
    Province of PEI Charges ($180,000.00 / $100.00 X $1.50)     $2,700.00  
    Less Provincial Tax Credits ($180,000.00 / $100.00 X $0.50)        $900.00  $1,800.00
     
    Fire District of Kinkora Charges ($180,000.00 / $100.00 X $0.11)       $198.00
    Island Waste Management Corporation Charges       $205.00
    Annual Charges    $2,203.00
