911 Cost Recovery Fee Collection and Return

Cost Recovery - 911 Emergency Coverage:
The Emergency 911 Act provides for the imposition and collection of a cost recovery fee to cover the costs of Government in connection with the provision of the PEI 911 service to the local subscribers of a telephone service of a telecommunications carrier.
Cost Recovery Fee:
Currently, the cost recovery fee for the PEI 911 service is set at $0.70 per month, or part month, for each telephone service that is subscribed to by a local subscriber. The fee is payable by the local subscriber to the telecommunication carrier that is providing the telephone service.

Fees Collected by Telecommunication Carriers:
Telecommunication carriers must register with the Provincial Tax Commissioner to act as an agent of the Minister of Finance and Municipal Affairs in the collection of 911 cost recovery fees. Telecommunication carriers must file and remit the 911 cost recovery fees collected from local subscribers to the Minister of Finance and Municipal Affairs on a monthly basis.
The filing and remittance deadline is 20 days after the end of the period covered by the return, even if no tax is payable.
